RATES & PAYMENT INFO

Design Services for a price you can handle.

I am not the cheapest option available for design work. If you're looking for the absolute lowest price-point for website design or printed marketing, I'm not your guy. But, I am FAR cheaper than most of the web design shops or marketing firms you will find. They may have a beautiful office with neon signs, two receptionists and a twenty-foot wooden conference room table.....but you're paying for all that "stuff" when you use them. Skip the fluff, and let's get down to what you need: Awesome Design Work.

I'm not selling "magic" - I'm selling confidence.

When you spend money on marketing material - and it doesn't matter what it is - you're buying confidence. Confidence is the key to success in any area. From dating, to selling goods, to nailing that great guitar solo on stage.....confidence makes it look amazing and effortless. When you have a beautiful website, or you hand a fantastic well-designed brochure or business card to a potential customer, you are making a statement. You're saying "I know what I'm doing. It should be obvious that I'm the real deal." The customer looks at these things and says "Ok, these guys are the real deal. They obviously know what they are doing. They get my business." That's how it works.

So I guess you're going to hide your rates until we talk?

Nope. Here's how I price my services. Many of my services come with a flat rate, while others will fluctuate depending on the complexity of the project. How I come up with the final numbers on your bill is no mystery. Here's the full spill:

eCommerce functionality is provided by Shopify. Here are their pricing plans.

Logo Design Price: $400

Logo Design

Logo design includes 3-6 initial "ideas" (sketched, then traced in Adobe Illustrator). Once you pick a couple to move forward with, final (and color) versions are created.

The final logo will be provided as a PDF file containing a 100% vector image that is resolution independent for any size usage. You will also receive a high-resolution PNG (with transparent background) and a black & white (gray-scale) version for general everyday use. These file types will allow you to place your logo on any material, and at any size, without a problem.

Business Card Design Price: $150

Business Card Design

This includes a standard 3" x 2.5" Business Card design for a front and back layout. If you do NOT wish to have the back printed (some clients like to have the ability to write on the back), there is a -$50.00 discount.

I will need your logo and all necessary contact information to be featured on the card. If your business does NOT have a logo, I will pick out a nice typeface to use for your company name. Logo design is a separate charge. Final product will be two high-resolution PDFs ready to send to the printer.

Print Design: $50 per hour

Custom Print Design

The $50.00 per hour rate applies to ALL forms of custom printing outside of business card design. This includes work for brochures, flyers, door-hangers, posters, mailers, tradeshow booth design and package design - anything that will end up being printed.

The complexity of your printwork will determine the amount of time spent creating it. A six page brochure featuring twelve images will naturally take much longer than a brochure with four pages and six images. All hourly-rate projects include a "not to exceed amount."

Video Production: $75 per hour

Video and Audio Production

I charge a flat $75.00 per hour fee for creating video. You will receive three final copies of the finished product. The first will be fully uncompressed (delivered on a BluRay disc). The second will be using Apple's Quicktime format (using slight compression). The third will be a H.264 encoded movie (MP4) which is perfect for YouTube and Vimeo usage. The Quicktime and MP4 formats will have the audio compressed to 192kbps quality (the same as an iTunes song). Audio is mixed for standard stereo. I do not mix audio for surround-sound.

You may choose your final output resolution as 1280x720 or 1440x1080. Final product will have RMS audio levels checked for correct "loudness average" suitable for standard broadcast. Your final video will be ready for broadcast on any website (including yours!) or on any HD Television. All hourly-rate projects include a "not to exceed amount."

The "Not to Exceed Amount" is a specified cost that we both agree on.

This is a "safety net" to protect my clients from unnecessary expenses. I will make my best effort to quote a fair price for every project, but in case complications happen (and they sometimes do), this final price insures no extra charges can occur. Many of my projects end with a total cost LESS than the "Do Not Exceed" value.

Why does most of your competition hide their rates?

If you ask the web shop or the marketing firm why they don't show any rates, they ALWAYS reply with this standard answer: "Because every project is different, so we can't give a flat rate." This, of course, is not the whole truth.

Every web shop I've worked for (which is around six) does the exact same thing: They sell you on a "base package" - that base package is a nice low number that sounds great on the phone before you decide to schedule a meeting. Soon you will be introduced to the "additional components" concept. Web shops will charge you extra for things that are now considered "standard" for any modern website - $500 for the image rotator, another $400 for the blog/newsfeed, and then the ridiculous hosting fees (sometimes more than $50 a month) are tacked on. Finally, you will be pushed to purchase a "marketing package" or "SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Services."

Before it's all over, that "base package" price will have tripled (or more). You will also be expected to sign a contract binding you to monthly hosting charges. If you agree to any marketing or SEO services, you can expect many additional charges in the months to come.

I simply refuse to do business with any customer in this manner. My prices are easy to understand and reflect what you can expect on your final bill. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

What if I'm not happy with your design? How does the approval process work?

I try my very best to make sure every client gets exactly what they want from their design project. Here's how the approval process works:

Once your website design is complete, I will send you (via email) a high quality JPG image to review. If you like the design but wish to make some changes, we will continue revisions until everything is satisfactory. If you hate the design, I will simply throw it out and start over. I do require as MUCH COMMUNICATION as possible to ensure that we get on the right track for the next design. The more details, the better. I will then send you a new image to review once the second design is complete. Again, we can make revisions to this design until everything is satisfactory. For general reference, my first design attempt is approved, with little to no changes, approximately 80% of the time.

In the (very) rare instance where you completely dislike the second design, I will have to switch to hourly billing for further design work. In nineteen years of doing web-design, I've had this situation occur approximately six times. Communication is key to any good working relationship.

Why don't you offer two designs to choose from initially?

I realize that many web shops do this. I can tell you without hesitation that this is pointless. It sounds great, but you will always choose the design THEY want you to pick. I've done this long enough to know that any web designer who must create two different designs for a client to review will always "polish" one much further than the other. While you may feel like you have more options, you are simply choosing the one the designer actually prefers. For the record, I do NOT count "color swaps" as separate design revisions. Switching out colors is a simple process and we can easily try various versions if needed.

Ok. What about the non-website stuff?

For logo and print design, I will most likely send you a revision to review FAR before the final version is complete. I will do my best to make sure that the project is heading in the right direction before the final draft is submitted for your approval.

In the event that you simply hate everything I create for you, I will calculate the amount of hours I have spent on your project (at $50.00 per hour) and refund the remaining money from your initial down-payment. I cannot give full refunds for work completed. In my industry, anyone can take the images I send for review and ask another (cheaper and less qualified) designer to complete the job based on what I have already created. It's quite easy to "rip off" a designer using this technique.

If you have any questions regarding my pricing or how the approval process works, please don't hesitate to send me a message. I'll be glad to share my work-flow with you or explain how my fees work in further detail.
